The backyard is a miniature woodland of holly trees and native shrubs, each of them trimmed as if they were green flames. To move about them is a sort of music, a poetry that cannot be spoken in words, yet is heard and calms everything that I am.
My backyard is a sanctuary for nature and in that it becomes my own place of serenity.
To watch the squirrels play, to absorb the sweet birdsong as if it were nectar, these are the simple joys of the backyard that is rich in nature.
There is a peace in the soul that comes of making a a tiny nature reserve of one's own backyard, as if that part of my own nature that has a child's wonder in the simple bud and movement of foliage is reserved and nurtured too.
