Inside that piglet is a brain and nervous system so similar to our own. One can sense the emotions within, that way of thoughts without words. Yet if they had hands or a vocal box capable of more, what then? Even a human would never learn to speak if they lacked the opportunity to learn in the right developmental window. But then, what do we need of their words when we can sense their emotions, is that not speaking by another route?
The pig trots with the joy of a baby soul, of the one who welcomes the freshness of being alive. There is that sense of love baby mammals have, a need for emotional warmth and connection. It is the way we are all born, right? Into a sense of wondrous hope.
The pig wakes with a sense of soft joy, for she feels the sunshine upon her skin. With a snuffle and wiggle she is on her feet, trotting about to greet the day. She is so puppy-like in her movements and there is an intelligence about her. I feel a smile grow as I watch her ears, they move with each step as Disney characters do, full of an expression that appeals to my heart.
Danny loves computer games and he’s a bit of a slouch. He can use mirrors to help him find food. He’s capable of using deception to throw off a competitor for food. He has relationships with his family members. He can do a whole circus worth of tricks. Large parts of Danny’s genome is identical to yours, he also tastes a lot like you would if we spit roasted you, not that we would. That would be barbaric!
