I was always a daisy in a world that only wanted a rose, and so I thought myself unworthy to grow as tall and wild as my heart needed to grow. Yet when a daisy grows so big, when she grows as colourful as a vivid rainbow, she can hold her own next to any rose. And, as an added bonus, she lacks thorns. So when someone with a good heart encouraged me to grow as a daisy, that's when my potential found itself quite unlocked.
He had a way of encouraging me to see all that I was capable of. Where others thought themselves my protectors by holding me back or hitting upon my self esteem, he did the exact opposite. If they were chains, he was the key. He wanted me to have the same mental freedom he had, to see my strengths and build them stronger. He made me not need him so I could choose if I wanted him.
There was an encouragement in her eyes, the way they were warm and soft. Her words could be few or many, yet always around her I felt more capable, more able, a better human than I otherwise could have been.
Those clouds, Nana would say, are more as we are than most think. When the water feels warm it rises, when it feels cold it condenses into those tear-like drops. So that is why, I feel, that we are called on to become more as the sun, to warm each other and help one another rise.
