I found that the exercise bike didn't work so great when I watched scary movies, I found myself peddling as if I was creeping through some haunted house on tippy toes. To romance movies I cycled as if I was taking a stroll to the store to pick up extra veggies. Action movies were often okay, depending on if they had uplifting tunes or not. So eventually I chose to skip all that and find music that kept me pumped and moving. Often times success is about observing your own real responses and getting a great feeling for how your body and brain are wired up. If I give myself the right environment I'm a surprisingly good athlete, who knew?
The exercise bike could fold up and quite neatly and be stored behind the couch. Most days I did a few Youtube fitness videos and then cycled to a bit of loud pop, worked up a sweat. An hour a day is all it takes to stay in great shape. It takes a while to get there of course, but things achieved more steadily tend to last better than things achieved quickly. So that it took time to get there was reassuring and being strong felt great.
The exercise bike was cheap, cheap, cheap, the most basic bitch in the catalogue. But in front of my television and loud speakers it was completely fantastic.
