In an age when we all yearn to be truly seen, to have our feelings read instead of "swiped left" on, our fashion models are told to switch off their positive emotions, to subliminally teach us that all we are is these empty shells, that we are only wanted for our "shells" and not the sweetness we keep safe within, longing to connect to the sweetness in others. These fashion models are instructed to walk with dead eyes, dead emotions and fallen faces, then the industry wrings its hands in horror as our youth suffer the obvious and inevitable consequences.
We are hard-wired to feel attracted to those who are warm hearted, happy and welcoming, perhaps it is time for a our fashion models to become great ambassadors for joy and empathy.
Most folks "swipe right" on people of average height, so let's have our models the same way.
When the average (UK) woman is five feet and three inches, what reason could there be for models being so very unusually tall? They say it's because the clothes hang better, photograph better, but there's an even more money-driven reason. By seeing what we can never be we are kept in a state of perpetual anxiety-insecurity, the goldilocks zone for increasing spending on their brands. Not enough to cause the higher brain to pay attention, but enough to direct our subconscious. For generations we have been shopping... via remote control...
