The purpose of of slavery was (and is) to force overwork and underconsumption in a sector of society so that another sector can underwork and overconsume; thus slavery was never abolished yet codified into the cultures of capitalism and class structure. For this to persist culture will codify vices as virtues, esteem villains and shame victims though the creation of misleading narratives.
There comes a time when "pushing" one's ideas that could save our world becomes morally the right thing to do. And so, if you have the time, I urge you to read my book, "Nexus. A Treatise in Defence of Love as Mankind's Answer," so that we can rescue each other and our planet from the trouble of our current era. There is a link to a free version and a Kindle version from my bio (bio-link below).
In an era that needs to tackle pollution, targeted advertising (that in itself is an abuse of personal data) that uses psychological profiling to increase consumerism needs to end. Consumerism and pollution are directly correlated from production, to packaging to transport and disposal. The age of "Buy, buy, buy," needs to give way to a more grown up consideration of planet Earth and the needs of all of her inhabitants - of which humans are only one species.
The adverts were games of word associations you never volunteered for. They took normal words and said the phrases over and over until you weren't much more than a biological robot, feeling as if their product was friendly and it gave you some emotional value that objects can't. Happy is a feeling within, a soft contentment and comfort with who I am. Love is a bond I share with people who love me back. Joy is a sometimes rise in emotion, a burst of love that makes my social bonds stronger. And so I wish these adverts would say those things, program my brain right instead of luring us all down the path that's hurting our Earth.
Jake got a bunch of news footage and doctored it and sent it direct to each sister’s computer so it would look like the real news. Anyway, sister one’s news was all positive, heroic firefighters and such. The sister two got a multiple murder, footage of terrorists, complex financial information and a story of a talking budgie who made the elderly happy. The third sister got news full of only war, terrorism and grisly murders. All of them had been followed by make-up and clothing commercials. Then Jake arranged to take all of us for lunch. Sister one was in a very positive mood, she was reflecting on how her life could be improved and some community work the news had inspired her to think about. Sister three wanted to talk about the state of the world, she was upset, depressed even, hardly touching her coffee. Sister two was quite flat, smiling, but in that way that told you her mind was elsewhere. She ordered more than she normally would, a sweet dessert too. Then she wanted to go shopping. She’d seen some advert for a new make-up and she wanted some. It wasn’t in her budget this week but what the hell, she could get blown up tomorrow so why not spend it all now? I asked sister two what was wrong and she rounded on me angrily. Even Jake was surprised. He had expected her to talk about what she’d seen and then he was going to confess and they’d laugh about it. But the second sister didn’t even know what was wrong with her. Her mind had been traumatized, but surrounded by such trivia she wasn’t able to process it appropriately. So instead her confused mind had latched on to the adverts, at least they made sense - she could buy things to be happy.

I’ve been waiting for, praying for, some kind of top-down change, but now I know it won’t happen that way. We’re fooling ourselves if we think it will. We’ll be watching some stupid reality show or playing computer games the moment the Earth goes past the tipping point and into an unstoppable greenhouse effect. We’ll still be being frightened by the news and placating ourselves with chemical laden junk food in pretty boxes, wrapped in plastic of course. We’ll still be chasing that lifestyle we’ve been groomed for from childhood to crave, that life equals consumption, success equals consumption. We’ll admire a system with no more morals than "rich is good" and you can do "whatever you can get away with" to accumulate more money than you can ever spend - while others starve. With no change we’ll continue to sacrifice our own children to the “daycare” system and then feel stressed when our damaged kids "act out." We won’t even stop to dwell on the fact that the number one cause of death of our minors is suicide - yes, children killing themselves. And for the record, that means our culture - the one we accept so passively - killed them. I can’t live with that, not anymore, and if you're being honest with yourself instead of swallowing the “I don’t care," " I’m too busy to care” party line, then you’ll know you can’t either.
