We were pretty robust in our humour I'd say, I mean, if personalised Christmas cards aren't meant for "getting personal" in, then I'm not sure what they're for. You can only do these things when the loving bond you share is obvious and palpable though, when you're still comfortable saying the sweet things without the "bravado shield" of crass humour, wonderful though that is. I guess it's the playful way of doing the "push and pull" thing a lot of loving relationships have, just keeping both elements part of the fun.
We were horror movie nuts, what can I say? So we crafted the sweetest and most loving Christmas messages out of cut out newspaper and magazine letters. They looked like a serial killer had sent them, and in fairness, every breakfast we were cereal killers, cornflakes mostly. The front of the cards were our photoshopped heads in spooky Christmas-themed places. We got old as the years passed, naturally, but somehow that joke never did and neither did our souls.
Yeah, we made personalised Christmas cards, totally... but by "card" we mean iced cookie... because why put so much effort into something they can't eat?
The personalised Christmas cards we loved were the ones the kids made; they were perfect in their imperfections, and cliche though that is it remains true.
