Some conflict is worth dying for, if you are protecting those you love from a determined foe. Yet most is drivel spoken with cognitive incontinence, and so retreat becomes the right option.
Conflict is for the most part, without point, because few can follow logic faithfully enough to stay on track. So retreat can be the only sane option.
I don't so much retreat as either "take a step back and regroup," or "ignore." For the most part it's good enough. Either it is a battle worthy of my energy or it is not. Then there is if the "opponent" is cognitively together enough to follow a logical and empathic reasoned response. If all they do is "swing their bat" wildly even though you never through a ball. Ignore. It's actually better.
"There are times that a retreat from conflict is bravery, not cowardice. Sometimes it takes fortitude to backtrack, to let the enemy take ground and find another route around to eventual victory. To proceed in this current time would be foolishness considering the positions they hold and I cannot send my men to pointless deaths to satisfy your blood-lust. You may command a retreat or hold me to court-martial, for we will have fallen back the canyon by dawn."
